Step-up-to-Writing Expository Essay

Friday we will be discussing the steps used in the Step-up-to-Writing program. We will be writing an expository essay using this format, but first we will practice by writing paragraphs. Refer to the posters on the left wall if you forget the order in which the sentences need to be.

Here is the topic for your first paragraph: "My Corner of the World."

CAMMI Ideas

Good morning, afternoon students,

Let's continue working on the CAMMI Award scripts.  I want each of you to pitch your ideas to me today. Pitching is where you tell me your entire idea-beginning, middle and end.  We need to start shooting these next week.

CAMMI Awards

It's that time again. It's time to start researching and writing your scripts for the CAMMI Awards. Finished commercials are due on October 29th. We'll discuss this more throughout the week.

Cinquain

To go along with the pictures of you that you upload, include a cinquain.  A cinquain is a five line poem. It should be about you, and looks like this:

LINE 1: Your name
LINE 2: two words (discriptive adjectives of line 1)
LINE 3: three participles (words ending with ING)
LINE 4: a simile)
LINE 5: one word (rename title synonym)

Here's an example:

Carla
imaginitive, enthusiastic
wondering, creating, reflecting
As inquisitive as a scientist
Teacher

Self Portrait of Famous People

On line, search for self portraits of famous people (artists, authors, filmmakers, etc.). Upload some of the pictures, and describe what each represents to you.

Bring pictures of yourself from home. Scan and upload these pictures on your blog to create a self portrait. Through the pictures, words and phrases, what would you like to communicate to viewers? Are these characteristics on the inside or outside of your electronic image?

Monday we started this assignment, but I don't think most of you finished. 

1. Draw or find an image that represents you. Download it, then upload it to your blog.
2. Inside the image, write words or phrases that describe your personal characteristics, emotions, ideas, values, beliefs and goals.  These things may or may not be apparent to others.
3. On the outside of the image, write words and phrases that reflect how you think others see you.  These can be physical features, behaviors, voice, etc.

Are we There Yet?

OK, so wev'e had a week or so to get our blogs laid out and ready to go.  I now need you all to become followers of my blog. This way you will be able to get the daily assignments. So on Friday, you need to figure out how to set up everything to become a follower.
